On the Table is a tribute to the 80s and 90s, a time when arcade games were a significant part of many childhoods. These memories, deeply ingrained in the minds of now grown-up adults, were the inspiration behind this unique design. The arcade table allows adults to relive their childhood memories without compromising the sophistication of their living spaces.
The uniqueness of On the Table lies in its dual functionality. As a video game console, it offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane, allowing users to play vintage games from the 80s and 90s. When not in use, the console transforms into a modern coffee table, seamlessly blending into the contemporary living room decor. This innovative design ensures that the presence of a vintage game console does not disrupt the ambiance of a sophisticated living room.
The arcade table is crafted from wood and stainless steel, measuring 700mm in width, 500mm in depth, and 345mm in height. The design process, carried out in Milan between 2016 and 2017, involved extensive research into existing home arcade consoles and contemporary design tables. The challenge was to create a stylish design for a unique product that transforms from a coffee table to an arcade game console.
On the Table is a testament to the power of design in evoking nostalgia while maintaining modern aesthetics. The design team, including Giuseppe Circhetta and Claudio Braccini, worked meticulously to ensure that the arcade table would be a perfect blend of the past and the present. Their efforts were recognized when On the Table was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade given to designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation.
The intellectual property rights for On the Table are held by Design of Things. This innovative design is not just a game console or a coffee table, but a piece of nostalgia that brings back the joy of vintage gaming while complementing the modern living room decor.
